Caretaker - Edgware United Synagogue

Full-time (40 hrs) or Part-time (25hrs) per week

Salary - £20,000 per annum; pro rata for part-time

Reporting to the Head Caretaker and Community Manager, you will be required to understand the operations of the Synagogue and to help support the Head Caretaker/Community Manager and Honorary Officers to deliver a high quality service that meets the expectations of the Synagogue’s members and stakeholders.

The main duties will include:

• Ensuring that all synagogue offices are kept in good working order, safety of the building and equipment inside and out is adequately maintained.

• Undertaking, when instructed by the Head Caretaker any minor repairs and maintenance work as well as possible emergency repairs.

• Ensuring Health and Safety standards are maintained in accordance with United Synagogue policy by carrying out daily H&S site checks.

• Carrying out the duties of the Head Caretaker whilst they are not on the premises. • Providing reasonable assistance to all users of the buildings.

• Supporting the Head Caretaker in the keeping of inventories of all equipment in the Synagogue (to report any damage, breakages and loss and, where instructed, carry out actions to rectify such situations.

• Overseeing the permanent and contract cleaning staff. • Opening and closing the Synagogue for all activities as directed by the Head Caretaker, ensuring that the premises are kept secure at all times.

The successful candidate will be expected to have a well-developed sense of responsibility and be able to work well as a member of the Synagogue Team. You will also have good communication skills, be physical capable to move furniture and equipment, diligent, trustworthy and sensitive to the needs of a diverse community.
